New funds will protect endangered bird in S.C.

Group will restore woodpecker habitat
[South Carolina] Landowners and organizations across the Southeast will receive nearly $1.4 million to help wildlife conservation, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Thursday. In South Carolina, Milliken Forestry Resources Inc. and 45 other private landowners and organizations will receive nearly $500,000 to help efforts to protect the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. The money for the state and the region is part of almost $7 million in federal grants being made available nationwide by the Fish and Wildlife Service through a public-private partnership.
