Dear friends,
PESTed is here to help you get ready for the holidays with our annual guide to buying Christmas trees and wreaths sustainably grown in North Carolina. We’ve compiled a list of sources, as well as some links for more information on Christmas trees, pesticides and farmworkers in NC.
Your purchase of a tree or wreath grown locally without pesticides makes a difference in more ways than one – you’ll be protecting your family from pesticide residues, protecting Christmas tree workers and their famlies, and supporting local growers who respect their workers and our environment.
But, don’t stop there! Here are some other suggestions from PESTed on making your holidays pesticide-free:
* Serve locally-grown and organic foods at your holiday celebrations. Many traditional holiday foods – including meats and poultry, dairy products, honey and seasonal fruits and veggies – are produced in North Carolina using sustainable practices. Some may be available at your local farmers market or natural foods store, and others can be bought directly from the farmers. Check out LocalHarvest, the Eat Well Guide, the Buy Appalachian Guide (Western NC only) or your local chapter of Slow Food USA for farm and market listings. (See our website for links.)
* Make a gift contribution to PESTed for a friend! Deadline for orders is December 9th. We’ll send your friend a handmade holiday card acknowledging your gift in their honor. Click here for information and order form.
We give thanks to each and every one of you for your support through this very exciting year, and for all you do to make our state a healthier, fairer and happier place to be. Together, we’re making a difference every day.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, and a wonderful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Billie, Fawn and Alejandra
