The annual board of directors election at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative in Virginia is unusually competitive this July as three reform candidates challenge incumbent board members for their seats.
The challengers are supported by Repower REC, a group of member-owners that disagree with some of the board’s decisions and policies. The reform candidates are pledging to revise the co-op’s election process, open board meetings to the public and increase the amount of renewable energy the co-op uses.
Member-owners can vote online, submit a mail-in ballot or vote in person at the Aug. 22 annual meeting. – By Molly Moore
